About
The Community Table for the Rockbridge Area was established in 2010 to address the growing need for food assistance among families in Rockbridge County, Virginia, and operates as a partnership between the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, the Rockbridge Area Relief Association, and other area organizations. TCT Rockbridge envisions itself as “a restaurant without a cash register”, where families can come to be fed nutritious meals in a comfortable and dignified atmosphere, thereby avoiding the stigmas that are commonly associated with traditional “soup kitchen” models.
Everyone in the community, regardless of ability to “pay” is invited to join us Monday evenings, for dinner and fellowship.
TCT serves meals from food that can be sourced from BRAFB, RARA, and other area donors. Menus are largely determined by what proteins and vegetables are available. The restaurant is staffed by volunteers, who wait tables, serve meals and assume all of the other responsibilities that are necessary for week-to-week operations. TCT depends on the generosity of our neighbors through the giving of their time, money, or presence.
TCT is committed to continuing its mission of addressing food insecurity in our community. Despite the pandemic, TCT re-imagined how to safely distribute meals to community neighbors by establishing a drive-through takeout system. TCT’s success can be directly attributed to the support we receive financially and in volunteer hours from the community. We believe that the service we provide is even more critical now with the effects of the pandemic creating additional hardships for so many. We are grateful for all the support we have received in the past, and are confident the community will continue to support us as we face new challenges during this potential transition.
